I wrote this blurb about musky fishing at this time last year, but I think it is worthy of sharing again:
When you pour your heart and soul into something for hours and hours on end and it just doesn’t happen, it breaks you down. It makes you question every ounce of your being, and what the hell you’re even doing out here.
The long rides up to the northwoods, time spent studying structure on lake maps, waking up early, battling bad weather, expensive musky baits, tens of thousands of casts, endless day dreams of where my next big fish could be waiting... none of it is a waste, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love the challenge of these fish. There’s no promise that the hundreds of hours spent casting each season are going to put a big slimy musky in your hands. When it does happen, it makes every minute of frustration worth it. There is not a single feeling in this world that compares to a musky slamming your black and orange Mepps Musky Killer ten feet from the boat. That’s the feeling that keeps me coming back for more.
Will never forget what it felt like when this Minnesota MEGA smoked my bait. I remember thinking...."hmmm this could be a big one." The 2017 Muskie season here in Minnesota is about commence.....here's to wishing everyone luck this season.
